Geek Shirts HQ Welcomes 8 Bit
…the latest t shirt brand to get undressed
Can you tell me about the brand 8BIT?
We are an independent tech culture T-shirt Design Company, based in Dublin, Ireland.
We design T-shirts showcasing the things which we think are beautiful, exciting or innovative in the world of technology.
We then sell them to discerning customers and they get admiring glances wherever they roam in the world, because of their excellent taste in clothing.
Where did you get the name 8BIT?
8-bit was originally a phrase used to describe the generation of computers and games consoles where were launched when 8-bit microprocessors were the norm. For example the Commodore 64, and Sega Master System, were 8-bit machines.
8-bit then became an all-encompassing term to describe art created using, or influenced by, retro technology. It could refer to the stunning pixelated art of Cory Arcangel or the thrilling Gameboy driven beats created by Bit Shifter
We now aim to make 8BIT the universally recognised term referring to a company who design beautiful limited edition tech culture t-shirts
Who are the people behind 8BIT? Can you start by giving some background about yourself?
We're two men in our mid-30s, who were part of the first generation to grow up with consumer technology playing a central part in their lives.
We listened to our Walkman’s on the way to school, we played Sensible Soccer on our Mega Drives and dreamed of one day owning a Sega after Burner hydraulic arcade machine.
We didn’t, however, envisage that within 15 years we’d be living in a world where the entire population carries advanced communication devices in their pockets, and everyone’s Grandparents would have a Facebook page.
We formed 8BIT to celebrate and explore this unexpected and exciting turn of events.
Who creates the designs? What process do you follow when designing a shirt?
All the designs are dreamt up by us and transferred from our brains to our buttery smooth t-shirts using a camera, a USB cable, a computer, Adobe Illustrator, an emailed vector file and a big vat of gorgeous screen printing ink.
What would a customer expect when ordering a product from you?
A customer can expect to receive a limited edition, 100% fine ring-spun combed cotton t-shirt in a shiny white box with a highly coveted 8BIT postcard inside.
They can expect us to answer any queries they send us via email, twitter or Facebook in a fast and friendly manner. And they can also expect to read heart-breaking stories of unemployed Irish robots on our blog
Where do you see yourself in 10 years both for yourselves and your business?
In 10 years’ time we'll be creating t-shirts using a desktop 3D printer and sending them out to customers using a simple A4 size teleportation device.
And we’ll have a Sega after Burner hydraulic arcade machine in the corner of the office.
Is there anything else you want to add?
