Welcome To The Latest Geek Shirts HQ Designer Unlocked
…..Where we bring you the best of the talented independent designers that are plying their trade on the internet.
This week we have a designer, who is a massive Whovian (if you don’t believe me just check out her designs!) does charity work, has a family to look after and in between all that she does a bit of designing as well!I first came across this designer on Twitter, and after checking out her site, I loved the caricatures that she has created. I have even had a caricature created of my daughter, which you can see at the end of the interview. She is also a very talented t shirt designer and I had to ask her if she would like to be featured here at Geek Shirts HQ.
Anelina Designs also does a lot of work raising awareness and money for Cystic Fibrosis, you can find out more about Cystic Fibrosis here

……The Latest Designer To Get Unlocked!
Can you start by giving some background about yourself? Where you are from? What is your background? How did you get into design?
I’m from Cheshire in England, UK born and raised. I live with my husband and son and our many rabbits, vegan and I drink way to much coffee!
I’ve always been nerdy and a bit of a Tomboy, I’d prefer action figures and video games over dolls and make up.
When I was a child I was always quiet and was always busy drawing, which then lead to art at school where my teacher was so impressed with my work that I was asked to do a mural in the main hall. So it all started from that moment!
I understand you do a lot of charity work for the Cystic Fibrosis trust and give a percentage of your sales as well. How did this come about and what inspired you to fund raise for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust?
Unfortunately my husband has Cystic Fibrosis. It isn’t just raising money for the CF trust that is important to me it is also raising as much awareness as possible.
What sort of the crazy things have you done when fundraising and what has been the craziest or scariest?
The scariest and equally as crazy thing that I have done for fundraising was running up 800 steps at the Beetham tower in Manchester, the tallest building in England outside of London. It was incredibly hard and took a lot of mental strength but I got to the 47th floor in 18 minutes and raised over £300!
Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?
My work is inspired from all of the things that I enjoy and obsess over. So yeah… lots of Doctor Who! My 4 year old son is also a huge part of my inspiration as he has the craziest imagination imaginable.
I also have to give credit to my husband as he is always throwing ideas at me to do designs of.
When you create a new t shirt design, what is sort of process do you follow?
Firstly I will scribble down an extremely rough doodle of my idea so I have it on paper. Then I scan it onto my mac. Secondly I do yet another rough draft in photoshop.
Then once I have everything in place and am happy with how it is looking I do another rough draft outline and then I begin final inking lines. Then I choose a colour palette and and colour the image in.
Looking at your own portfolio what is your favourite design and why?
My favourite design and best selling design has to be my ‘Ctrl + alt + DELETE!!’ design, It’s awesome to see after that design came out that everyone started drawing cybermen on their keyboards delete button – ha ha (I should maybe apologise for that…sorry!)
What current projects are you working on now? And can we get a exclusive peek?
I’m working on yet more Who designs and I also have a few Disney designs in the pipeline. But for now you can see this
What is your favourite part of design? Tees shirts? Caricatures? Designing other one offs?
I don’t think I can choose a favourite part as I love every bit of my job.
From designing tees and then getting pictures of people with my work on them with comments about how happy they are. To making people laugh and smile with caricatures.
But I have also met loads of amazing people with my commissioned work, who have given me so many great opportunities (this year my work is going to be published in a best selling authors book!)
Can you tell me more about your Octopi project?
Well one of my favourite animals from a very young age has been the octopus.
They have always fascinated me for obvious reasons, so I started modelling them out of clay. I am now still in the prototype stages but hopefully I will get more time to make them soon (I hope!)
Who are your favourite designers?
Do you try to convey any message in your designs?
I put my loves and obsessions into my designs and a little bit of me is always there 😉
One of my favourite designs from Anelina Designs
With your charity work, t shirt design, commission work and a family life. How do you fit it all in? Are you secretly a robot sent from the future to kill us all?
That would be great (the robot part, not the killing) I do need to be more organised but my family always 100% come first.
The past few months have been pretty hectic with Christmas and then Valentines I have been booked up with caricatures and not had much time off (A big apology to the lateness of getting this interview back to you) I guess it proves I’m not a robot 😛
Star Wars Or Star Trek? Which Do you prefer?
I have to say Star Wars (not like my son has anything to do with that)
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully better at what I do, even more nerdy, and much more organised!
What do you prefer designing for, something wearable or a print?
Wearable, but I am hoping to get more prints done soon! I also love doing original marker sketches!
What other interests and hobbies do you have when you’re not designing?
Gaming, Lego, yoga, running, family time, chess, tattoos…
Do you have any advice for budding designers?
Keep at it, and as long as you love what you’re doing, you’re doing it right 😀
Anyone you want to give a shout out to?
My amazing husband and son who make my life complete! Also go and check out Noctography!
Where is the best place to find your designs and buy some of your shirts? And of course get in contact with you
Thanks for a great interview, below is the caricature that Anelina Designs did for me of my daughter.
