Bitmap'd is a brand that is growing rapidly in making a name for itself in an online world that is saturated with t shirt brands. Bitmap'd is a serious brand to be reckoned with that stands apart from an over-crowded t shirt scene. With a quality and professionalism in what they do.
If you don't believe me check out what some people are saying below or even better, order one of their fantastic tees for yourself.
Their designs are cool, I like the uber retro logo and what I find astonishing is that the man behind Bitmapd does EVERYTHING himself!
“Thanks for bringing this level of quality to the gaming culture.”
“Bitmap’d is to gaming as Last Exit to Nowhere is to movies.”
“Take your pick at this killer collection of video game inspired shirt designs.”
He has been called the Godfather of Bitmapd, a 'made' man’.
He is Bitmap'd, a man with so many different talents he has to wear sunglasses as he often dazzles himself.
This is a man who can turn his hand to anything.
He is simply known as Gerard, the man of many talents behind Bitmap'd
When creating his own designs he likes to relax by running his own New York crime syndicate, he finds his artistic side is released when warring with rival gangsters.
Gerard stop thinking you are Vito Corleone and playing gangster, let’s talk Bitmap'd
Who are the people behind Bitmap'd? Can you start by giving some background about yourself? Where you are from? Who creates the designs? How did you get into shirt design?
I'm the one man crew behind Bitmap’d. My name is Gerard and I'm originally from Bronx NY (currently in Brooklyn).
I do everything from designing all the graphics, packing & shipping orders, building/maintaining the website to marketing, customer service etc.
I've been designing apparel graphics for about 11 years, working on brands such as Marvel, Hasbro, Disney, Nickelodeon, Xgames and Calvin Klien to name a few.
Having the experience from working on such brands, I decided it was time I did something for myself. And since video games is one of the things I know and love, I thought it'll be a natural fit to start a line of gaming tees.
"Those famous plumber brothers set out on a quest to save the seven kingdoms, in arguably one of the greatest sequels in gaming history. Super Mario Bros. 3"
What process do you follow when designing a shirt?
Before designing any shirts, I make sure that whatever game I base the design off; I've actually played that game myself. It makes the process a bit easier and allows me to add those little nuisances that gamers can pick up if they're familiar the game.
An example can be seen in the "Sneaking Reptile" tee design. I purposely turned the "i" in "Solid" upside down to represent the famous exclamation sign that appears over the soldiers head in the game. When it comes to the actual designing, I tend to brainstorm and create concepts straight on the computer.
When I knew I wanted to create this brand, I didn't have a name until about 3 designs in. It wasn't really a top priority, but I knew I needed something! So I started thinking of words that had a video game vibe but wasn't so literal. I settled on Bitmapped but didn't want it written so long, I shortened it and ended up with Bitmap'd. I liked it!
"In the year 21XX, once peaceful robots have gone mad and are now labelled "Mavericks". Chaos ensues and there's only one robot who can stop them all. MegaMan X"
Can you tell me more about the brand Bitmap'd?
Well it's fairly new to the scene; I launched Bitmap'd back in Aug. of 2011. The main theme for this brand is video games.
I was a bit frustrated at the lack of quality designed gamer tees on the market. I knew there are some good brands out there, but I felt there could be more. Thus Bitmap'd was born and is here to fight the good fight for quality gaming tees!
What makes Bitmap'd different from other Apparel Vendors? What is your USP?
I'll be honest with you; the tee/apparel industry is a very crowded one. There's literally a new brand popping up every day. Besides having cool graphics on your tees, it can be very challenging to standout from one another.
With Bitmap'd, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. But offer people a choice of nicely designed gaming t-shirts at a great price. Every tee I create, I'd be very proud to wear and hope that customers or potential buyers feel the same.
"Clone, espionage, stealth, CQC, weapons expert, cardboard box…just a few words describing one of the best special operations agents ever created. Metal Gear Solid"
I'm working on some new colour ways for some of my existing tees as well as my first collaboration tee. So stay tuned, it'll definitely be something cool!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years both for yourselves and your business?
Whoa! 10 years from now?! I haven't even had my 1st anniversary yet! Hahaha…all joking aside, I see myself doing this full-time and my business known throughout the gaming (and apparel) industry!
I'd also like to one day hold A gaming tournament, sponsor gamers, or even make a game! I know those are some big dreams, but it can happen and I'll do my best to make it so!
"This rodent lays claim to being one of the first "Electric-Type" of it's kind. When provoked, it can produce some shocking results. Pokémon"
When getting your apparel printed what is the process that you prefer?
Currently I outsource my printing, so I really don't have a hand in that. I do prefer using water based inks for the screen printing. It provides a nice soft hand feel. You can't go wrong with that!
What brands of apparel do you prefer to print on?
It can vary, but I like to stick with tees that are 100% ring spun cotton. Preferably with a 4.50 oz. weight. These types of tees usually have a nice soft hand feel and a lighter weight. I'm not a big fan of the thicker tees and i try to stick to stuff I'd personally wear.
What would a customer expect when ordering a product from you?
They can expect great service, a timely delivery and great product!
With every order I pack in some stickers and a collectible button.
For customers who order 2 or more tees, I include a nifty Bitmap'd branded drawstring bag. I’ll be experimenting with different pack-ins in the future so stay tuned for that!
"You've traveled the globe. Left in your wake, the worlds best fighters bruised and battered. You reign supreme. Street Fighter II"
Anyone you want to give a shout out to?
I'd like to give a huge shout out to all my fans and supporters! Without you fine folks I wouldn't be doing this! I'm glad you guys really like the tees and hope you continue enjoying the products I release.
My wife for the support, thanks baby!
Also want to give a big shout out to the guys over at Fangamer.net. And last but not least, k. Stewart of pwnlove.com. Thanks for all your help!
Is there anything else you want to add?
I'd like to say to all those looking or thinking of releasing a new brand, go for it! I’m not going to lie, it can and will be challenging but it's also a rewarding experience! And If it doesn't work out for you, at least you'd tried! Not trying is the number one killer of brands!
