Geek Shirts HQ welcomes Melee Ninja
…..The Latest Designer To Get Unlocked.
Can you start by giving some background about yourself? Where you are from? What is your background? How did you get into design?
Hi, my real name is Adam I'm from a little but beautiful colonial city called Morelia in Michoacán (where the bad guys from Breaking Bad are) in México.
I'm graduated from Graphic Design degree and actually work as a freelance illustrator / Graphic Designer, but illustration it's always better and enjoyable.
I think Melee Ninja is a really cool name! Where did you get the name from?
I got that nickname from several years ago I'm made that name for some videogames forums and I like it 'cuz it's very sticky.
Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?
Well it's very easy I just play the videogames that I like, read some comics, books, listen soundtracks, view a lot of art from around the world (thanks internet) and the ideas begin to flow.
Tip: My best ideas come when I'm in the shower.
How would you describe your design style?
That's a very tricky question because in my case I'm always trying to implement new kind of style, but generally mi style is very "comic" I don't know how to describe it but you can see it on the images. But sometimes I try something like vectors that make a totally different look, mix both, depends on the intention of the idea.
When you create a new t shirt design, what is sort of process do you follow?
First I wrote a lot of ideas, check on Google if someone had just made it because I don't want to replicate an idea, start sketching compositions and choose my favourite to start the digital inking. When the inking is complete I'm start looking for a colour palette, start colouring and make the finals adjustments.
Totoroke in design
Looking at your own portfolio what is your favourite design and why?
Mmhh… Let me see… I never thought about this, I think it's the "A Regular Boardgame" I really like how it turns the strokes to become the shadows and the lighting I think I'm going to use that more often.
What current projects are you working on now? And can we get an exclusive peek?
I'm already working for some designs about Monster Hunter, I really love the Monster Hunter series and I'm only make one design about it so I'm doing a series of posters/shirts about the dragon/wyverns enemies.
Who are your favourite designers?
Not in order these are my favourite designers: Winter ArtWork I love his style it's so unique and fresh, Kary Fry another unique and carismatic style go and see it, and I really like the style of the guys behind Bitmap'd clever and discrete.
When marketing your designs how much focus and importance do you place on social media sites?
Well I only use Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and Behance to promote the shirts.
Do you try to convey any message in your designs?
Noup I'm not trying to communicate any message just trying that the people smile because they have happy memories about it.
Star Team T-Shirt
Star Wars or Star Trek? Which do you prefer?
I'm never see the original Star Trek series only the new J.J. movie, sorry but it's true, and in my childhood I saw the original Star Wars trilogy over and over, so Star Wars.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
As a respectable illustrator, living simple and enjoying every day creating something new that makes me happy.
What do you prefer designing for, something wearable or a print?
That must be wearable, that someone gets your art on a shirt that's something very magical because they are going to wear it in public!
