Welcome to the Geek Shirts HQ Designer Unlocked Interview Series where we put the best independent designers under the spotlight.
Cool designs, awesome artwork and a bit of a maverick is the way I would describe the design style of today's designer. If you don't believe me, check out some of his designs below or head on over to his redbubble store.
Today's designer is Revolution GFX
He is mysterious, no body knows how he got his name, or what his real name is!. What drives him on to create the perfect t shirt, is his belief that one day this will trigger his memory and he will find out who he really is!
That day has come! he was once a member of a boy band called NSYNC. I head he he relaxs battling British tourists in the outback, some say that he does this for fun, I agree he does this to relax before pumping out another killer design.
Please put down that tourist we have a interview to complete.
Can you start by giving some background about yourself? Where you are from? What is your background? How did you get into design?
I live in the land of incompetent government, overpriced everything, and the slowest net in the developed world, Australia if you didn’t guess.
My background in life has taught me the value of money, hard work, real friends, respect, and how to make something out of nothing, in my case artwork that some people like.
I got into design because I figured what better way to feel proud of the work you do than to wear it on your chest, and the chest of many others hopefully.
Where did you get the name R-evolution GFX?
Well that’s a long story, probably best told another time.
Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?
Just about anything you can think of in one way or another.
When you create a new t shirt design, what is sort of process do you follow?
Depends, some are straight from my mind to photoshop in a burst of inspiration, some are sketched and modified for a while, then vectored up.
Looking at your own portfolio what is your favourite design and why?
I’m probably most proud of my portal fan calendar, took me a long time to design it, but I doubt I could ever pick just one design as a fav, that’s like picking just one of your kids as a fav lol.
What current projects are you working on now? And can we get a exclusive peek?
I probably have a very unorthodox way of designing compared to other designers, I tend to work on around 2-5 designs at once on and off lol, I guess it keeps one design from going stale in my mind, but lets say my main designs coming along are based on Skyrim, BttF, and Zombies :]
Who are your favourite designers?
Anyone who designs something I like I’ll tend to keep on my radar :]
Do you try to convey any message in your designs?
Yeah plenty of my earlier designs have messages, but pop culture tees have kind of taken over lately lol, they’re more popular.
Buffy (the TV Show) Or Buffy (the movie)? Which Do you prefer?
…I only like movies/tv shows that have at the very least good acting and storylines, hence I steer very clear of buffy… sorry lol.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
With any luck still doing what I love to do.
What other interests and hobbies do you have when you’re not designing?
Photography, customizing my car, bodybuilding, gaming, martial arts, motorbikes, film/anime, I guess I’m not what most people would call a typical nerd or geek lol.
You think Barak Obama with get re-elected?
No idea, I don’t follow politics at all, they’re all lying clones of each other year after year anyway.
Anyone you want to give a shout out to?
Anyone who likes my designs enough to buy one, thanks!
Where is the best place to find your designs and buy some of your shirts? And of course get in contact with you
One last question, when you going to design a Back To The Future Shirt as I am a massive fan?
I am currently working on one as a matter of fact ;]
Thank you for a cool interview, if you want to get in touch with Revolution GFX you can do with the contact details above and don't forget to check out his killer designs!
