Steven Anderson, T-Shirt Designer Unlocked

Welcome to Geek Shirts HQ Designer Unlocked series, where we high light the best and most talented t shirt designers.

This week we have a special guest from Scotland, he is known as Seven Hundred and is responsible for some excellent designs, my favourite being the iPhonus tee.
Seven Hundred is a designer whose designs is considered very original, and always brings something new and a different take on established subjects. Check out some of the excellent designs below.
If you have not heard, Seven Hundred has a novel way of designing as he likes to use post it notes to create his designs. No, he doesn't draw on them but covers himself in them, while he designs.

When not designing he finds solace and comfort entering eating contests like those in Man V Food.
This is the story of the man simply known as Seven Hundred.
Stop covering yourself in Post It notes please, we have an interview to finish..

Can you start by giving some background about yourse lf? Where you are from? What is your background? How did you get into design?

I'm from Glasgow, Scotland – the tradionallay wet weather gives me a good excuse to stay in and doodle. Which is what i've always done – all through school my parents used to get told – "he chats too much, but is very artistic…" And today I still draw the same things I used to draw as a kid – Star Wars characters and vehicles, Superheroes and other such things I refuse to grow up and move on from…

Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?

All over the place – films, comics, tv but also boring logos and corporate IDs – I often look at them and think – that needs a geeky twist – what can I add to it?

"Want to keep up with school pals during the holidays? Fancy a game of Wizard Chess during a lessons? Or hilariously prank the other school houses with a Howler? With this iPhonus tee, simple press the Spell or Potion you need for the situation you’re in."
When you create a new t shirt design, what is sort of process do you follow?

Normally i'm fighting against my own imagination to get one idea down on a post-it note and through a vector graphics package and on to a t-shirt before the next one hits and distracts me…

Looking at your own portfolio what is your favourite design and why?

I don't really have a particular favourite – one that I really like, although no-one else seems to as I haven't sold a single one, is my 'Feast enough for you old man' Star Wars eating challenge tee.

It was inspired by a marathon session of the awesome ‘Man Vs Food’ and my brain started wondering what kinda eating challenges our favourite Sci-Fi and geek universes might have, and the Tees you might get for completing them…

I like this one cos it looks like fairly regular and unassuming, but it's packed with geeky references and built round an epic misquote from episode IV.

I also like how the font and graphic looks star wars-y without resorting to the actual star wars logo font… but that's just the graphic designer in me.

"So why not pull up a chair in the Mos Eisley Cantina at the World Famous Tatooine Spaceport and take on the it’s a Feast Enough For You OLD MAN! challenge"
What current projects are you working on now? And can we get a exclusive peek?

I'm currently working on getting married! I've got a lot of speeches to write and things to confirm so my designing has had to take a bit of a back seat at the moment… once I'm back to normal – i'm sure my brain will start churning out ideas again…

Do you try to convey any message in your designs?

Not really – just a sense of fun

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully still doing the same thing – maybe working on some Avengers 3 designs!

"The Next Epic Event… takes place Under the Sea! After Marvel Zombies and Marvel Apes – why not Marvel Whales! Introducing The Swimming Spirit of Vengeance – The Ghost Diver!!!"

What other interests and hobbies do you have when you’re not designing?

The usual I guess – playing video games, watching films and TV, listening to music – and waiting on inspiration to strike…
